  1. Seems very well made and clever. For what it cost I figured it would be somewhat larger.

  2. i got this for my roommate she loved it. its a little smaller than it appears though its more for a key chain.

  3. I have to agree with “Fiasco” about the knife – it doesn’t seem very useful given its rather stunted size, and it’s only sharpened on one side (the cheap way of making a blade). I’d also have to agree with “N. Berry” that overall, it’s kind of small, and that limits its usefulness. I also have a Swiss Army “Executive” knife, and it’s long blade is significantly longer than the Squirt’s. I’d also say that the Squirt doesn’t feel or look as well-made as the Swiss Army Executive. It’s nice to have the Squirt (mainly as a small set of pliers or maybe a geek tool), but so far, for a general-use small pocket knife, I prefer my Swiss Army knife over this one.

Swiss Army: Executive Swiss Army Knife

  4. this thing is way too tiny to be practically used…i was hoping it would be at least the size of the Gerber Clutch. I picked up a Clutch at Lowes and found the small pocket tool to be quite practical. Then I saw the Squirt online which appeared to be Leatherman’s version. Since I own/use several Leatherman tools, and since Amazon had it for $20 (with a list value of $40) I decided to grab one.

Let me tell you…if I had paid $40 for this (the “listed” value), I wouldn’t even have opened the package. I would have shipped it right back to Amazon.

This is a keychain “tool”…made small enough to go on your keychain and use very rarely for certain things. The knife isn’t really even large enough to be practical for opening mail.

Do I plan to still toss it in my pocket daily? Yeah…but I was definitely hoping for something larger. Maybe I need to look at a Leatherman Juice. (But I’m definitely going to look at one in person, and not buy on the internet.

So if you want a cool VERY SMALL leatherman to toss in your pocket or put on your keychain, this is probably for you. If you’re thinking it’s going to be an often used practical tool, I’d at least look at one in person before buying.

  5. I have had this tool for about a month, and I love it. It has all the tools I need in a daily situation at work or around the house: knife, screwdrivers, file, pliers, bottle opener.

Biggest plus is size. This thing is tiny, you have to see it to believe it. It weighs only 2 oz. It is very pocket-friendly – you can carry it with you all the time everywhere and not even notice until you need it. (Careful when flying – it can get confiscated at the airport!) There is no multitool of similar size and weight that comes close in usefulness or quality. The Leatherman Micra is the closest thing, but it is noticeably larger, and has scissors instead of pliers (I find pliers more useful, but there is a Squirt S4 with scissors if you prefer that). The Gerber or other brand tools of similar size lack in fit and finish, and some are downright shoddy in comparison to this one. There are tiny Swiss Army knives, but they have much fewer tools than this. If you are familiar with the Leatherman Juice series: this is the baby version of it.

The negatives: practically every individual tool is a compromise. The knife is perhaps most pitiful: it is tiny, has a slightly odd shape, and is only sharpened on one side. It is good for opening mail, cutting tape, etc light jobs but nothing serious. The bottle opener is so thin that you need to apply it several times to open a beer bottle (it works fine, just not at once). The screwdrivers are great, but I would not use them on a heavy duty rusty screw. Perhaps the one tool which is truly up-to-spec is the mini screwdriver for eyeglasses, which I use with great success.

Which Squirt to choose: they differ in their pliers. P4 is most useful in my opinion, and has small pliers. S4 has scissors instead of pliers. E4 is most rare and has wire strippers, but they are not effective as pliers; more of a specialized tool. Mose people choose between P4 and S4. In my opinion, you can cut fine with the knife they all have, but you can’t clamp anything with scissors :)

Highly recommended. Basically, this is the lightweight champ of keychain sized tools – it beats all other similar multitools and Swiss Army knives. Just have reasonable expectations: if you expect to need a tool for a specific task, better bring something bigger.
